Demonstrating its commitment to educational excellence and continuous professional growth, MSA Whiz Kids Academy welcomed educators to a customized professional development workshop entitled “Beyond Behavior: Strengthening Classrooms through Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Effective Behavior Management” on June 16, 2026.
The workshop was facilitated by Teacher Gina Catudio-Aguilar, Special Education Teacher and Inclusive Education Advocate, who guided participants through practical, evidence-informed strategies for understanding and responding to learner behavior through an inclusive education lens.

Through collaborative planning between the school’s leadership and our team, the workshop was intentionally designed to move beyond traditional discipline techniques and instead explore the underlying causes of children’s behavior through the framework of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
MTSS is an evidence-based framework that helps schools provide varying levels of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support based on each learner’s needs. Rather than waiting for children to struggle before intervening, MTSS emphasizes early identification, prevention, data-informed decision-making, and increasingly targeted supports that help every learner succeed. It is a framework that benefits all children—not only those with diagnosed disabilities or learning differences.
Throughout the workshop, teachers explored proactive classroom practices, positive behavior support, differentiated strategies, and practical interventions that foster engagement, self-regulation, participation, and positive relationships within the classroom. More importantly, participants reflected on a fundamental principle of inclusive education: before asking how to manage a child’s behavior, educators must first ask what that behavior may be communicating.
This shift in perspective is especially important in today’s classrooms, where educators may encounter learners with diverse developmental profiles, including children with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, language delays, anxiety, sensory differences, or other learning needs. When behavior is viewed as communication rather than defiance, teachers become better equipped to respond with empathy, structure, and evidence-informed support that helps children develop the skills they need to thrive.
